Suzuki Stock Gains on Volkswagen Partnership Rumor


Suzuki Hydrogen Fuel Cell Motorcycle

Suzuki stock jumped 5.5% on Friday (6/26) after rumors appeared that Volkswagen was interested in Suzuki's small car, electric and fuel cell portfolio.

Volkswagen is apparently considering taking a 10% stake, although current partnerships with Fiat and others may hamper the German desire.

Suzuki has been teaming with GM on hydrogen and hybrid vehicles.

Japanese batteries in Tennessee

President Obama's "green" initiatives already seem to be bearing fruit, with Japanese ventures creating employment in the USA, while reducing future CO2 emissions.

Boosting battery development

Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization is promoting a 7-year project to develop next-generation batteries.

Improved power management for hybrid vehicles

Fuji Electric and Furukawa Electric are working on a power chip for hybrids that does not involve the use of silicon.

The power chip in a hybrid vehicle controls the efficiency of the battery use, and is currently limited by the use of silicon in such chips.

Mitsubishi To Produce 5 New Electric Vehicle Models

Mitsubishi Motors has announced that it will produce an additional 5 models of electric vehicles. Production and sale of these new Electric cars to be completed by 2013.

They intend a production volume of electric cars to be near 20% of their entire line. These cars, clearly not intended for the U.S. market, will be left-side steering and at least one vehicle will be a commercial transport. A plug-in hybrid Sport Utility Vehicle will be in production as well.

It is predicted that around 8,000 units being sold by 2011, with about half of those being i-MiEVs.
