Solar is heating up

Using Kyocera solar panel technology to augment the more traditional methods of co-generation, Yanmar's co-generation systems are intended for industrial use, seemingly providing up to 50kW of power per unit. On sunny days, the solar panels will help boost the town gas-powered co-generation system's output, and at night, the facility can revert to grid electricity. Buyback period is estimated at 10 years.

The new technology emerging on the solar energy front (lightweight, efficient cells) is going to create an ever-increasing number of developments such as this, where traditional and sustainable energy sources are fused to provide a complete solution.

Combined Solar energy & Thermal Co-Generation System in development

Yanmar is launching a project to develop a next-generation combined solar energy/thermal Co-generation system. Yanmar believes this system will be suited for industries and businesses faced with reduced production and increasing energy costs in the current weak economy, and expects to see a return on their initial investments in about 10 years. Yanmar is projecting about 3 trillion yen (approx. $300 million) in sales by 2012.
